Hit the Slopes

On the border of Lakeville sits the famous skiing, snowboarding and tubing destination Buck Hill ski area, made so by Olympian Lindsey Vonn. Known affectionately as “The Bump,” Buck Hill offers nine lifts and 16 runs for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, as well as freestyle terrain for the truly adventurous. Adrenaline junkies will love the high-speed ride down Buck Hill’s 12 snow tubing lanes, complete with a magic carpet for an effortless ride back up the hill. In between runs, snuggle up by the fire and enjoy a beverage or tasty meal overlooking the slopes at the new Buck 54 Bar & Grill.

 

Happy Trails to You

With breathtaking views, more than 50 miles of trails and snow throughout the winter months, Lakeville, MN is a premier destination for snowmobilers. Lakeville has the most trails of any county in the Twin Cities metro area, with connections to the east, south, and west. This gives riders access to the more than 22,000 miles of snowmobile trails available across Minnesota. You can ride on Lake Marion, the trails of Ritter Farm Park and other unique trails groomed by the SnoTrackers who also provide trail maps online. Snowmobilers can park and ride at four convenient locations throughout Lakeville and many restaurants cater to this sport with convenient parking areas. Curling Rocks the House

Once a sport with just a small following, curling has gained significant popularity since it appeared in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Today, there are a handful of curling clubs in the metro area, including Lakeville’s Dakota Curling. At approximately 26,000 square feet, the rink has six curling ice sheets that are 15 feet wide, and a large club room with a bar and food service. Dakota Curling offers learn-to-curl classes, drop-in curling, bonspiels, camps and leagues designed to accommodate players of all ages, experience levels and physical abilities. Additionally, the club offers private rentals for groups up to 150 people.

 

Frozen Fun

Lace up your skates and glide along one of Lakeville’s ice rinks this winter for fun, exhilaration and a good workout! Lakeville Ames and Lakeville Hasse Arenas both offer indoor open skating opportunities year-round. Rental skates are available on a first come, first serve basis. If traditional outdoor skating is more your style, you can find up to eight ice rinks at several parks throughout Lakeville. Usually open by December 21, these outdoor rinks are subject to weather conditions so please call the Lakeville Parks & Recreation Hotline at 952-985-4690, option 1 to find out availability.

 

Fishing for Fun

When Lakeville’s Lake Marion freezes over, ice fishing season begins! Whether you simply drop your line into a hole or set up a heated icehouse, you’ll have a blast engaging in one of Minnesota’s most beloved past times. And don’t forget to bring the kids out to the Youth Ice Fishing Contest in February!

 

Tis’ the Season for Shopping

Escape the blowing snow and icy winds inside one of our premier shopping centers! Lakeville, MN is located just a few miles from several retail destinations, including world-renowned Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. With more than 2,779,242 million feet of retail space, this “mega” mall houses more than 520 stores, 50 restaurants and the nation’s largest indoor theme park. Bargain hunters will love Twin Cities Premium Outlets to the north in Eagan, MN, and Medford Outlets to the south in Medford, MN. In the winter, you can rent snowshoes for just $3 a pair per day at Lakeville City Hall. Then, head over to Ritter Farm Park and immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the winter season on miles of picturesque trails.

Nothing is more exciting than flying down a steep hill on a sled or tube, no matter what your age. This winter, head out to one of Lakeville’s hills for some blood pumping, family-friendly fun. Some the local favorites include All Saints Church, Crystal Lake Education Center and Lakeville North High School.
